200 Days to SHAPE Baltimore! Here’s 20 of my Favorite Things to do in Charm City.

Thousands of health and physical educators will descend on Baltimore in just 200 days for the SHAPE America National Convention. When I attend conventions I try to emerse myself in all the location has to offer. While Baltimore’s rich history offers endless opportunities for exploration, I’ve listed 20 of my favorite things to do in hopes that my HPE colleagues will take full advantage of their time in Baltimore. For what it’s worth, I have lived and worked in Baltimore for 17 years, so while I think this list is pretty great, I invite you to comment with other things you love about the city. I currently serve the young people of this amazing city as the Coordinator of Health, Physical Education, & Adapted Physical Education for Baltimore City Public Schools. I hope to see many of you April 1-5, in downtown Baltimore for the best convention in the nation!

Here we go, in no particular order…

  1. Catch a game at Camden Yards. The Red Sox will be in town on April 1-2. Be sure to catch a game at the best ballpark in the MLB. Meet me at Pickles Pub for the pregame!

  2. Take a walk over to Federal Hill Park. The top offers the best view of the Inner Harbor, you will not be disappointed!

  3. Visit Fells Point. Whether you stroll into The Horse You Came In On (Americas’s oldest continuously operating bar), snag a prohibition style cocktail at Rye, dance at Cats Eye Pub, have the best seafood at Thames Street Oyster House, or just want to relax inside The Pendry’s amazing courtyard, Fells Point has something for everyone.

  4. Baltimore is a city of neighborhoods. In addition to Fells Point, you may like Federal Hill, Mt. Vernon (where the original Washington Monument stands), Canton, Little Italy, Harbor East, or Hampden.

  5. Grab a bike or scooter and check out the Observatory at Patterson Park.

  6. Want to check off a National Park while you’re in town? Scooter over to Fort McHenry.

  7. Visit the National Aquarium

  8. Get a crab cake delivered from Koko’s Pub.

  9. Take a morning jog along the promenade. Head east from the convention center to see the neighborhoods of Harbor East and Fells Point.

  10. Visit the American Visionary Art Museum.

  11. Hop into a sand volleyball game at Rash Field.

  12. Check out the gravesite of Edgar Allen Poe.

  13. Visit the George Peabody Library.

  14. Looking for something free? Check out The Walter’s Art Museum.

  15. Breweries - Mobtown, M8, Monument City, Ministry of Brewing and so many more!

  16. Distilleries - Old Line and Sagamore are my favorites.

  17. Get a workout in at Under Armour’s World Headquarters. Note- you must wear UA gear.

  18. Baltimore Basilica - America’s first Catholic cathedral has daily mass at 7:30 am and 12:10 pm (Mon-Fri).

  19. Take a picture with Ray Lewis’s statue in front of M&T Bank Stadium.

  20. Take the Water Taxi around the harbor.

That’s it! 20 of my favorite things to do in Baltimore! I hope you’ll check a few out while you’re in town!
